Using line filters

Your Broadband Internet service is provided in conjunction with a standard BT telephone line. Wherever you need to plug a telephone into a master socket or extension socket you will have to use a line filter for each telephone.

You can opt to use face plate filters and these are described in Broadband Hardware.

Using telephone extension leads

If your PC is located more than 1.5m from your telephone socket you may opt to use a standard telephone extension lead. In this case you should use a line filter at the PC end of the extension.

You may also want to plug a telephone into the wall socket. In this case you should use a plug socket doubler into the wall socket. Your extension lead will plug into this and have a line filter at the PC end. You should also put a second line filter in the socket doubler. Your telephone will plug into this.

Notes on which lines broadband works

Please note that these Broadband Internet services are only available with a standard BT telephone line.

You may already have ISDN, Business Highway, Home Highway or other similar services. These must be converted to a standard BT telephone line before your order can be processed.

You may have two or more BT telephone lines that are provided by a DACS. The DACS enables two seperate telephone lines to share one set of telephone wires back to the BT exchange. Broadband Internet does not work over DACS services. You will either have to ask BT to provide both lines separately or cancel one of the lines and have the DACS removed.
