The Standard Service is designed to enable single users to gain access to NHSnet.

Many organisations have a number of small offices with perhaps one or two computers, such as GP's at schools or care homes. 

These computers can share a single Broadband Internet connection. Each computer user can use their own VPN tunnel across the Internet service into NHSnet and onwards to the corporate network.
