Communications has been working with Cable & Wireless throughout
the development of the Broadband Access to N3 service.
We
have developed a service which we believe is closely aligned to
the requirements of NHS organisations needing to introduce secure
high speed access to their computer systems for workers based
from home.

clearly stating the type of Internet connection and who it is
for.

Protection |
There
have been many virus scares in recent months. You will have
seen some of the issues raised with certain IP ports on
NHSnet being closed due to virus problems.
- The
majority of viruses are spread by email.
- Most
NHS organisations have corporate facilities to deal
with viruses enclosed within emails.
- It
is essential that any Broadband Internet service supports
the organisations' IT policies.
- Protecting PC's from email based viruses is essential.
- The
standard Broadband Service does not provide any internet
based email mailboxes. In normal circumstances the users
should use either Trust provided mailboxes or the national
NHSmail service. Private email mailboxes will be
provided for users upon request from the nominated organisation
administrator. Similarly, details of the service's POP3/SMTP
mail servers will be given on request from the
administrator.
